ROAN ALVAREZ

(b. 1995, Pasig; lives and works in Cavite, Philippines)

My practice explores the socio-political effects of technology on identities, self-presentation, and culture. I use digital and analog electronic technologies in my work as a means of reflection and a tool for investigation—to further understand the multiple aspects of identity constitution (online and offline) and the invisible structures that influence such. Through physical computing, I produce interactive transmedia and intermedia works that allow the audience to take part of the diverse narratives and discourse concerning human-technology relations including, but not limited to, digital technology’s role on the performativity of identity, gender inequality, algorithmic bias, identity propaganda and information disorder.
