Roan Alvarez is a Filipino visual artist who primarily works with intermedia and transmedia. Through physical computing, Alvarez explores the sociopolitical effects of technology on identities, self-presentation, and culture. Her interactive works often involve the use of light-emitting technologies, microcontrollers, sensors, and other electronic components, which allow the audience to participate in diverse narratives concerning human-technology relations. Alvarez earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2015.
